Arthur Fouray

Biography

Arthur Fouray (b. 1990, Paris) is an artist and curator whose practice explores the systems of narration, production, and distribution of art. His research extends from drawing to music, from painting to exhibition formats, and from video to the digital realm. In 2015, he co-founded the artist-run space Silicon Malley in Prilly (Switzerland) and subsequently joined the curatorial team at DOC! in Paris (2016-2018). Since 2019, he has held the position of Archivist & Curator at LUMA Arles, where he is in charge of the Hans Ulrich Obrist Archives.

His painting proceeds in series. In 000fff , each work takes the name of a historical widescreen film process — Polyvision, Univision, Natural Vision, Magnifilm, Veriscope — and takes an exhibition as its subject, so that a format for showing becomes the image itself. Works are opened and reopened from one year to the next rather than finished, and their titles carry those intervals.

As an artist, his work has been presented at the Fondation Pernod Ricard (2015), the Swiss Art Awards, Salts, and the MCBA Lausanne (2016), as well as the Aargauer Kunsthaus and the Villa Medici (2017). He is the author of two artist's books: M (Julien Gremaud, 2015) and SCREEN (Tombolo Presses, 2017). His musical productions have been available on streaming platforms since 2022. As a curator, he has organised exhibitions by Lauren Coullard and Matthieu Laurette at Silicon Malley, as well as Francesco Cagnin and Pierre Joseph at DOC!. He has co-organised, with Hans Ulrich Obrist at LUMA Arles and LUMA Westbau (Zurich), a series of exhibitions structured around the archives, dedicated to Édouard Glissant (2021), Etel Adnan (2022), Agnès Varda (2023), Gustav Metzger (2024), Maria Lassnig (2025), and Zaha Hadid (2026). He is also the co-editor of the publication Édouard Glissant: Dans un monde imprévisible, l’utopie est nécessaire , published in collaboration with Éditions du Seuil in 2024.
