RT4A

The name rt4a began with a transcription accident. In 2014 I dictated “Arty Fouray”, a nickname modelled on “Andy Warhol”, to my phone. It returned RT4A.

The four-letter/six-letter pattern of the nickname becomes letters and a number. An identity emerges between a choice and a transcription error.

A code becomes a signature. RT4A attributes a work while offering fewer clues about its maker. Recognition does not have to depend on a recognisable style.

The code can act as an avatar. Under RT4A, painting, objects and music can share a name without sharing a style.

Other artists can use RT4A too. The paintings, objects and recordings gathered here are different uses of that possibility. Their individual titles, materials and credits let you follow what each one does.
