Call began with a personal Apple Music playlist. It started with songs that spelt the word ‘call’ and grew to eighty-four. In each, ‘call’ is less a verb or a noun than a feeling: desperation, passion, sadness, exasperation, disdain, desire, longing. A word for telecommunication becomes, in these songs and their titles, the many forms of love.

The colour came from the French téléphone rose, the ‘pink phone’ of raw desires and night-time confessions. Layers of pink were applied to the list shaped as a phone, each coat a step further from the acid green the painting began with. The result is a neon pink so deep that its origin in green and white can no longer be imagined, and the ways of calling merge with the ways of loving.
