Apple Music asked for an artist profile image. Duty turns that obligation – supply a recognisable face – into its subject. Marcel Duchamp’s Self-Portrait in Profile (1957) lent the request a second sense: a profile picture can also be a profile.

From a photograph of me beside a pool on the French Riviera I kept the sky and removed the person. The setting stands where a face was expected: Duty answers the request with the circumstances of a portrait, and I am present only in the decision to leave myself out.
