Missing Information

Missing Information, 2011. Arthur Fouray. Single-channel video with sound · 16 min 01 sec.

Fractal forms, geometric fields, interference and grain. The image appears, breaks up and starts again. Saturated colour gives way to near-blackness; no stable scene emerges behind the changes.

I keep two ways of entering this material together: a sixteen-minute video and a companion archive of 488 animated GIFs. The film gives the images a succession. The grid lets several small loops happen at once, without a single beginning or end.

A related hour-long audio work also survives under the title Missing Information ?, an early experiment with electronic sound. It is a separate recording from the sixteen-minute film.

This was part of my Pre-Natal period. I was trying out what a change of format could do to a work, moving between the screen and physical space.

In 4pm (2011) and PAV (2012), movement comes from physical actions and repeated gestures. In Missing Information, the image itself will not keep still.
