The image comes from Part 8: Lynch’s reconstruction of the Trinity test, the first atomic explosion, in New Mexico on 16 July 1945. The sequence is scored with Krzysztof Penderecki’s Threnody to the Victims of Hiroshima. Image and music recall different events. On the smallest canvas of the series, the explosion is drawn in white and black on red.
